THOUGH KNOWN FOR HIS “HUMBLE” ” APPROACH, TIM KELLER PLANNED HIS OWN MEMORIAL SERVICE IN GRAND STYLE SECURING HIS PLACE IN EVANGELICAL HISTORY.

(NOTE :This article is not meant to be mean spirited nor to “speak ill of the dead”. Yet is is unavoidable to address the long term damage and impact Tim Keller’s ministry has had and his legacy will continue to have on the church in this generation. The glaring contradictions of his self planned memorial service help in understadning his own complex legacy and the gulf which exist between his reputation and his actual impact on /in modern Christian circles globally.
HIGH PRAISE FROM HIS GOSPEL COALITION (TGC) FELLOWS
Tim Keller’s influence on the evangelical church and especially on the American Reformed movement, including his own Presbyterian Church in America, has been both far reaching and destructive. Keller’s political movement TGC has helped reek havoc in American seminaries, churches and ministries since its founding in 2006. Yet no one has ever been able to fully unravel the funding or influences behind it. Keller came out of obscurity as a Virginia pastor and into his position as pastor of a planned and “hopeful PCA flagship church plant in NewYork City”. He is said to have been the 3rd choice for the job. Who pulled the strings within these PCA has never been revealed.
In 2008 Christianity Today and Peter Drucker evangelical machine “Leadership Network” operative Ed Stetzer began helping Tim Keller’s name become a household word by hard selling his new book. Keller, Stetzer and fringe emergetns like Brian McLaren began a movement call “Mission Shift” inorder to flood the EMERGENT MOVEMENT intomission organizations and visions.
By 2010 the Lausanne Movements choice of Keller as a keynote in Lausanne South Africa and his later choice to speak at Lausanne’s North American memorial to John Stott had Keller touted as one of the churches leading “intellectuals” and dubbed “the new John Stott”. Since that time Keller’s influence has continued to explode. Keller’s TGC, his Redeemer Church NYC , his MANY books and publishing arm “Gospel in Life” his global church planting arm “Redeemer City to City”. His “New York City Movement Day”, his SOCIALIST ECONOMICS model “Center for Faith and Work” and his Frankfurt School inspired narrative of “human flourishing” and “theology of Cities” have seen to that non stop growth. Most often his talking points have come from political think tanks like the Institute for Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture (IASC ) and his strong GLOBALIST and left leaning political affiliations. These have helped secure Keller’s place as a leading “thinker” of modern day evangelicalism.
THE SOURCE OF KELLER’S TALKING POINTS
Keller was most skilled at appearing contemplative and thoughtful while presenting the narrative such think tanks as FRANKFURT SCHOOL inspired IASC had honed.
(NOTE :MANY of Kellers key concepts and terms came from IASC which admitted to its Frankfurt School inspiration on its very own about page.
IASC -“Our institutional inspiration comes from the close-knit intellectual fellowships of the past (such as the Frankfurt School and the Vienna Circle); our philosophical inspiration comes from a thoughtful re-appropriation of the theologies and classical philosophies which characteristically champion the dignity of the person, the pursuit of the just life, and the flourishing of the human community.”
(NOTE also that his revealing statement was later removed AFTER it was brought to light in an expose on Tim Keller.)

All About Jesus: Tim Keller’s Memorial Service
AUGUST 15, 2023 | SARAH EEKHOFF ZYLSTRA
(THE FUNERAL PROGRAM WAS LINKED IN SEVERAL ARTICLES)
https://religionunplugged.com/news/2023/8/16/tim-keller-memorial-service-the-reason-for-joy
“Keller’s memorial was referred to as a “worship service to God for Tim Keller’s life and ministry.”
“The service, held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and also streamed live on Keller’s website, was never one of pure grief. Rather, it was one of hope and joy. The service was rooted in thanksgiving, selflessness, joyful confidence and, yes, celebration.”
“Exactly the way Keller himself intended it.”
“Keller noted that his father had meticulously planned out his own memorial service. He had handpicked each hymn, and the sequence of the hymns was likewise intentional. The late Keller had also provided a short, written commentary for each hymn.”
“In all, the service consisted of five hymns, five Scripture readings and even readings from C.S. Lewis’ “Weight of Glory” and “Mere Christianity.” It also included words from Kathy Keller and her sons, along with a homily delivered by the Rev. Sam Allberry.”
(MORE ON SAM ALLBERRY IN A MOMENT)
“I chose each hymn, and there’s an order to them,” Timothy Keller wrote as part of the program. “So the first one, ‘Immortal invisible God Only Wise,’ is a tremendous depiction of who God is and his attributes. It’s really all about God. Who is he? And what’s really interesting is some of the lines in here summarizing the most important Christian ideas. I’ve never seen it summarized better.”
“When Keller planned his memorial service, it also appeared that he wanted to include as little of himself as possible in the proceedings. This shows how the service reflected the person of Timothy Keller.”
“Chris Whiftord and her husband, Tom, were part of Redeemer’s second-ever member class. She said Keller “didn’t draw attention himself.”
SEVERAL DISTURBING CONTRADICTIONS
A Reformed Calvinist Protestant known for his “humility” and desire to “avoid drawing attention to himself” (as repeatedly pointed out in his memorial service which HE PLANNED) leaves behind some very disturbing contradictions to such convictions and statements both by him and about him. Keller, by planning his service be held in New York Cities GRAND St Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral and calling his faithful to a worship service in his honor surrounded by the unbiblical religious trappings and teachings which his Reformed Protestant movement “protested against” from its founding over 500 years ago. This choice of venue is INDEED a very strange contradiction.
Also with a repeated desire NOT TO DRAW UNDUE ATTENTION TO HIMSELF-Keller chose to spare nothing when picking the grandest available venue and deciding every detail himself right down to providing commentary before each hymn which he also chose himself. It is not uncommmon with Christians facing extended terminal illnesses to specify desires for their memorial services but these contradictions in Keller’s role and choices remains troubling given his reputation and Reformed Protestant Christian affiliation.

TIM KELLER AND TGC LONG HISTORY WITH THE GAY IDENTIFIED ACTIVIST CHURCH OF ENGLAND PRIEST SAM ALLBERRY
Tim Keller chose Sam Allberry to participate in his memorial service as did the dying apologist Ravi Zacharias . Since Sam Allberry’s first book “Is God Anti- Gay ?” was publisjed in 2013 ,Tim Keller’s TGC has featured the “Same Sex Attracted” (SSA) but “Celibate” Priest front and center. Allberry is an editor with TGC and a regular in its conference , publications and events. In 2010 both TGC and Lausanne has subscribed to the SSA narrative based on the global mental health /American Psychological Assocaiton’s new gold standard of Sexual Orientation ( being fixed ) Gender Identitiy (being Fluid) /SOGI as both entites adopted extensive WHITEPAPERS on SOGI as their own gold standards on human sexuality and gender. This put these two major influential organizations in alignment with the American Psychological Assocaition (APA) and the international LGBTQ Human Rights community in advancing social change on LGBTQ equality and inclusion especially inside the churches.
Sam Allberry was a central figure from the same efforts inside the Church of England as their STATE CHURCH launched on a two year “conversation” in the church to promote compliance with the English governments newly legalized gay marriage decision.
Keller and TGC CHOSE ALLBERRY FROM this circle of activism inside the Church of England to be engaged as a leading voice in their influential TGC circles. Such voices were included and heard to bring about social change…not biblical faithfulness nor holding to the power of the Gospel to convert and set free sinners from thier sin. SSA but celibate is an updated version of the “non-practicing homosexuals” activist narrative of thirty five years ago in the mainline churches of the time who soon fully AFFIRMED practicing homosexuals into membership and ordination in their churches. ALL of those movements entered into and continue in steep decline .
THE KELLERS AND SAM ALLBERRY 2018
“The very qualities we have loved in Tim are all reflections of what can be found so clearly in Christ,” Allberry said. “What Tim was, imperfectly, Christ has always been, fully and completely. Or to borrow from one of Tim’s more memorable phrases, ‘Jesus is the true and better Tim Keller.’ And so the best way to appreciate and understand Tim is to think about Christ.”
REVOICE LGBTQ INCLUSION AND LGBTQ THRIVING IN CONSERVATIVE CHURCHES REMAINS THE SINGLE MOST DESTRUCTIVE EVENT IN KELLERS OWN PCA DENOMINATION AFTER YEARS OF “DEBATE” OVER THE SSA BUT CELIBATE MOVMENT.
Revoice is deeply intrenched in both Albert Mohler’s Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (SBTS) and the PCA Covenant Theological Semianry (CTS) in St Louis. Yet Tim and Kathy Keller /TGC have maintained a very close- ongoing association with many leaders from Revoice AND with Sam Allberry.
THIS KELLER /ALLBERRY ASSOCIATION REMAINED EVEN IN KELLER’S MEMORIAL SERIVCE.
WHY?
REMINDER :
Just as the damaging and divisive Revoice movment was being exposed in the American seminaries in Spring of 2018, Allberry announced his ministry “Living Out” plans to host Tim and Kathy Keller in their London Conference on LGBTQ issues & “OUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST”
LIVING OUT PROMOTING ITS CONFERENCE WITH THE KELLERS & REVOICE AS “HIGLY RECOMMENDED FOR OUR US FOLLOWERS.

And for our US followers, there is of course the http://revoice.us event coming up in July which we highly recommend!
At this conference Allberry and Living Out introduced their LGBTQ Inclusion Church Audit which Kathy Keller labeled as “BRILLIANT” and affirmed they were taking it bact to Redeemer Church. You cna see the Living Out announcement below and the true /false questions of the Lvining Out /Allberry “Inclusion Audit” below that
““At our Identity in Christ conference with Tim & Kathy Keller in June 2018 we launched our Living Out Church Audit – a tool to help church leadership teams answer this key question: how biblically inclusive is your church? Unsurprisingly our focus is on those who might identify as LGBTQ+/ same-sex attracted: Jesus included all in a counter-cultural way and we hope this audit will help our churches follow his lead.”
NOTE: IT WAS IN TGC PUBLICATIONS THAT REVOICE FOUNDER NATE COLLINS FIRST INTRODUCED SAM ALLBERRY VIA HIS BOOK REVIEW AND PROMOTION TO TGC AUDIENCE.
Is God Anti-Gay?
“In this brief but important book, Is God Anti-Gay? And Other Questions about Homosexuality, the Bible, and Same-Sex Attraction, Sam Allberry combines pastoral wisdom, authentic autobiography, and sound exegesis to provide Christians with a helpful introduction to the topic of homosexuality.”…

OF ALL THE PREACHERS IN THE TGC STABLE WHY DID KELLER CHOOSE SAM ALLBERRY TO SPEAK AT THIS MEMORIAL SERVICE ALONG SIDE HIS FAMILY?
ANSWER? –
LAUSANNE 2010 HAD SOUGHT TO ADDRESS THESE STATED ISSUE OF THE DAY : KELLER /TGC AND THE SAM ALLBERRY AFFLIATIONS CERTAINLY SOUGHT TO ANSWER AND RESOLVE THE “ISSUES ” LAUSANNE HIGHLIGHTED IN 2010.
” The Cape Town Congress was particularly concerned about the crises of our time. Prominent themes were, for example, the increasing impoverishment of many segments of the population in underdeveloped countries and the accumulation of wealth and assets of affluence among a relatively small upper class, not only in the Southern Hemisphere but also in the West. Other themes of the Congress that affect the spread of Christianity worldwide included the reconciliation of human races, the achievement of social justice, the mitigation of global warming, the increase of women in leadership positions, the right approach to homosexuality, the oral tradition of the Bible, and the conduct of spiritual warfare.”
CONCLUSION
Something about the social change efforts of Living Out and Revoice spawned in 2010 out of Lausanne and TGC remain at the epicenter of Tim Keller’s ministry and his own carefully crafted legacy .The church must ask itself “WHY”. .. and what will be lasting impact of Keller’s influence on the biblically conservative church given his ties to IASC/Lausanne and activist like the Revoice leaders and Sam Allberry of Living Out ?
MATTHEW 7:
You Will Know Them by Their Fruits
15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.”
