DESPITE MASSIVE ALIENATION OF IT’S MEMBERSHIP THROUGH TIM KELLER AND THE GOSPEL COALITION, DECLINE IN IT’S INSTITUTIONS AND CHURCHES, SCANDALS LIKE THE LGBTQ+ REVOICE AND WOKE MOVEMENTS- THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN AMERICA HAS JUST PROVEN IT HAS NO INTENTION TO ALTER THE DAMNING TRAJECTORY OF THE LAST 15 YEARS.

The Birmingham Alabama congregation Briarwood Church held flagship church status in the PCA since the founding of the conservative PCA denomination decades ago. But Briarwood has been troubled and in deline for years due to the groundswell of progressive politics and WOKE ideologies, a Church and semianry based “Faith and Works” Social Woke Justice economics (Kern Family Foundation/Acton Institute driven ) -and the ongoing influence from TGC /Tim Keller. Also the former pastor Harry Reeder continued his own involvement with the TGC Leadership Council. After a serious exodus of members and elders the troubled congregation’s remaining leadership and movement are now confirming that they are tone deaf to these concerns and too distracted by their own flowery press to grasp the pending outcome of the path they are on. The PCA seems to remain set on self destruct..
GIVE US GODLY SHEPHERDS OR WE DIE
Conservative Reformed belevers have long shown their desire to follow good leadership like Frank Barker who founded Briarwood and helped found the PCA after progressive and left leaning influences dismantled conservative mainstream Presbyterian movements. But leaders like Tim Keller and all too cooperative players like former , now deceased, Briarwood pastor Harry Reeder have continued to push the limits of duplicity and progressive politics wrapped in conservative rhetoric and Reformed Theology with horrific outcomes.
Keller’s Center for Faith and Works, the Kern /Acton MONEY & Influence in the seminaries and the massive impact of TGC on pastors and pulpits have taken a huge toll on the PCA. Reeder had congregants and elders alike seeking to persuade HIM to exit the TGC Leadership Council for many years until he finally did so shortly before his death. But the Keller/ TGC influence NEVER ceased at Brairwood nor has it ceased in the PCA. In fact it has only increased since the death of Tim Keller in May 2023 just one day after Reeder was killed in an automobile accident.
BRIARWOOD’S TROUBLES
Under Reeder Brairwood had expereinced little growth and several recent splits in large part due to the TGC/Keller progressivism, Revoice like “Rethink Apologetics ” LGBTQ agenda and even a massive RACIAL /CRT DRIVEN WOKE JUSTICE agenda in the Brairwood Christian School and other Briarwood ministries. Harry Rdder had also passed away under the cloud of over 60 charges of Abuse of Power filed against him in the local Evangel Presbytery. These charges had been investigated and confirmed and were coming to a head at the time of Reeder’s death. They have since been shelved and all but buried… for now. (NOTE – This author /researcher was NOT part of those 60 plus individuals who filed charges but can attest to the many abuses in the leadership style of the Reeder regime for simply attempting to warn the leadership and congregation of the dangerous influences and compromise of TGC/Keller / Faith and Works/ Revoice and other significant errors and threats to the biblical fidelity and spiritual health of Briarwood and the PCA congregants.

“Dan Doriani (MDiv, PhD, Westminster Theological Seminary; STM, Yale Divinity School, Research Fellow, Yale University, 1981, 1995) is Professor of theology and Vice President at Covenant Theological Seminary. He has written seventeen books on exegesis and biblical ethics, and is the founder and president of Center for Faith and Work, St. Louis. He was also a lead pastor of a very small church (5 years) and a very large church (eleven years. He has three children and three grandchildren (so far).”
In addition to the deepening of The Gospel Coalition influence with ANOTHER TGC COUNCIL MEMBER as interim – the fact that Dan Doriani heads the social justice driven “socialist economics” behind the “Faith and Works ” ideology in St Louis proves that Brairwood nor the PCA leadership either hear or care about the massive losses they have sustained because of it.

Neither Briarwood nor the PCA are in a good place nor are they likey to survive much more of the damning leaven TGC/Keller and WOKE Justice dark money have flooded into this once conservative and far reaching movement. Briarwood as the PCA flagship congregation leadership is sending one sure message to congregants and to onlookers and to concerned believers everywhere with the appointment of Dan Doriani as “Intentional Interim ” at Brairwood Church. “It’s business as ususal – your concerns about a false gospel and the present decline mean little or nothing to us. WE ARE STAYTING THE COURSE…KEEP ON TITHING.”
