PCA’s RANDY POPE /PERIMETER CHURCH AIDING OBAMA &CAMPAIGN SOCIAL JUSTICE PARTNER

RANDY POPE AND HIS ATLANTA CHURCH FOUNDED AND PROMOTE THE MINISTRY OF AN OBAMA FOUNDATIONS &CAMPAIGN  CO-FOUNDER

Rev Thomas Littleton                                                                                       12/3/2019

( THE FOLLOWING ILLUSTRATES THE REALITY THAT CONSERVATIVE CHURCHES AND MOVEMENTS WHO TRY TO PARTNER WITH URBAN ACTIVIST , GOVERNMENT PROJECTS, WELFARE PROGRAMS AND COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION ALWAYS BECOME LOOSED FROM THEIR BIBLICAL MOORINGS  AND FIND THEMSELVES DROWNING IN A SEA OF PROGRESSIVE POLITICAL IDEOLOGY .THIS NEVER …NEVER ENDS WELL.)

Thirty Pieces of Silver .org was born in part out of the disturbing revelations at this writer’s own church home in 2012 when it adopted Randy Pope’s  “Journey Curriculum” -“Seeking the Welfare of The City ” and Community “Connector ” VISION  of the church as the hub for community development . The vision of Randy Pope /Perimeter Church became this writers church -NEW vision. Randy Pope had been selling his ideology  through  the Journey Curriculum which had a justice and community narrative with a plan for “mobilization ” of the congregations at his own church and other churches who followed it.

By 2013 Pope visited this writers Birmingham Alabama church and helped launch its own smaller scale “Connector” project. That church, Shades Mountain Independent, had quickly gone from being a growing church with solid evangelistic / discipleship model to a becoming a rapidly declining congregation with ministries taking government funding and attempting city wide community development role in the social justice vein . Today SMI- now renamed Shades Mountain Community Church , continues its steep decline and is teetering on the verge of collapse under the “Connector Project ” debt and the failing “vision”.

Birmingham Alabama Briarwood PCA Church pastor Harry Reeder was involved in the vision with SMI church through it’s mutual interest in the “City Reaching ” / justice model of the local “Mission Birmingham ” following in the footsteps of Pope’s Atlanta organization. (More on that in a moment )

This writer contacted Randy Pope about his “vision casting ” which split the SMI congregation and took it deeply in to debt -creating an uncertain future for the declining church . Pope was not interested in discussing the issues and provided only  a very brief response to the details of the concern. He called for agreement to “agree to disagree” without any discussion of the facts.

RANDY POPE CALLS PERIMETER CHURCH TO GO “ALL-IN” $75 MILLION WORTH

Randy Pope at the same time led his own church to  LAUNCHED ITS OWN capital campaign called “All – In Kingdom Impact ” to raise funding to update facilities and budget for the community development vision of the “Connector Program “. ( At the same time Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church  was raising $73 million to do the essentially same on it’s campuses .)

As part of this vision Pope would engage the Rick Warren “Purpose Driven ” model from the same Faith Based Partnership ideals Pope / Warren/ fellow PCA “visionary ” Tim Keller learned from Peter Drucker and Bob Buford’s Leadership Network. Drucker was a corporate “social responsibility ” management  guru whose ideology was used by  Buford’s organization Leadership Network to lure and “train many “innovative ” and personally ambitious , pragmatic young pastors like those mentioned above. These young pastors like Pope and Warren were enticed  into embracing  the Drucker model . Leadership Network has been very successful in enticing many others over the last 35 years with little notice by the average congregant in churches like Perimeter and Saddleback..

RANDY POPES “TESTIMONY” OF THE INFLUENCE OF BUFORD / DRUCKER

In 2014  LeadNet posted this Pope /Perimeter  interview of Randy Pope with Buford about the history of Pope in the Drucker leadership “education”.

The Drucker / Buford vision sees churches and ministries  as a valuable part of “mobilizing volunteers “and “creating community ” for recasting the role of the church in society as one of three sectors .The job of the church is to “care for souls”  in Druckers, three legged stool approach. This role ,as Drucker envisioned it , sees the churches become the hub of social services , health care  , and community human services . Between FEMA during a local disaster response and the housing of “free ” or indigent medical clinics in the churches, to continuing education programs -the church is redefined as providing help and equitable distribution of goods and services at the local level. However the church cannot PARTNER  with other outside entities, especially government entities and funding  and retain it’s Gospel mission. Common sense warnings abound as do outright restrictions on prayer, witness, Bible reading and any explicitly religious activity or any “discriminatory ” policies by those accountable to the Government entities who have direct oversight of such collaborations .

PRAGMATISM – THE DEATH OF GOSPEL  MISSION

RANDY POPE AND MANY OTHER PASTORS WERE MOST LIKELY  PRAGMATIC ENOUGH TO PERSUADE THEMSELVES THEY COULD DO THE GOSPEL WITH GODLESS PARTNERS.

ALSO PERIMETER CHURCH LIKELY DID NOT THINK SUCH WORK AND PARTNERS WOULD IMPACT THEIR SOCIAL POLICY AND POLITICS TO THE POINT OF PLACING THEM DIRECTLY IN LEAGUE WITH OBAMA FOUNDATION GLOBAL AGENDA .

IF NOT THEY WERE WRONG .

OVER THIRTY YEARS LATER- THE ERROR AND FAILURE IS NOW OBVIOUS .

( NOTE the church in Birmingham mentioned in the early part of this article ran a sister ministry to Pope’s UNITE called “Mission Birmingham” . LOCAL PCA pastor Harry Reeder and his Briarwood church had ongoing involvement with Mission Birmingham as it trained local non profit leaders to be successful in obtaining government grants and building a city wide “network” of ministries for community development .Both Mission Birmingham and UNITE  were part of the Mission America Coalition network and were following the “To Transform a City ” model by longtime Leadership Network employee Eric Swanson and his book by the same title above. Mission Birmingham has recently shut down operations in Birmingham after receiving government grants and buying into the Randy Pope style Vision expansion. )

ONE OF THE MINISTRIES UNDER THE POPE /PERIMETER  “ALL-IN KINGDOM IMPACT ” VISION IS “TERMINUS COLLECTIVE .

ITS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR IS

Amisho “Sho” Baraka

“SHO “AN ARTIST ACTIVIST WHO IS A COFOUNDER OF THE &CAMPAIGN AN OBAMA FOUNDATION / DEMOCRATIC PARTY INFLUENCED MOVEMENT FOCUSED ON THE “PROBLEMATIC”  TRUMP ADMINISTRATION AND THE 2020 ELECTION

https://andcampaign.org/leadership

“After being educated at Tuskegee University and the University of North Texas, where he studied Television/Film, Anthropology, and Public Administration, Sho Baraka has spent the last decade traveling the world (5 continents, nearly 20 countries) as a recording artist, culture curator, and activist. His oversees activism has ranged from race relations in South Africa to establishing musical cohorts in Indonesia. Sho is a three-time Billboard charting, award-nominated (Stellar, Dove) artist, founding member of internationally known hip-hop group 116 Clique, and founder of Forth District and The And Campaign.”

“Currently, Sho is combining his artistic platform with his academic pursuits, contributing a unique perspective to both arenas, while attempting to raise the culture. In addition to regularly traveling for concerts, speaking engagements, and consultation projects, Sho serves as the Executive Director of Terminus Collective, a network that is active in civic and cultural innovation. Sho lives in Atlanta, GA with Patreece, his wife of fifteen years, and their three children; one daughter and two sons.”

SHO BARAKA CAUSED  CONTROVERSY IN 2017 OVER HIS SONG LYRICS

LIFEWAY PULLED HIS PRODUCTS OUT OF THIS RETAIL STORES .

“Originally, LifeWay embraced Baraka’s album, describing it on their website as being “saturated in a Gospel worldview.” The Narrative received a positive reception on iTunes as well, making the top 10 list last fall when it debuted.”

“The objection comes over an anatomical reference in the last song on the album, “Piano Break, 33 A.D.”:

“I was an insecure boy who just thought he was a genius
But always p****d off, that’s because I thought with my p***s
It’s all strategic, I’m just asking us the reason
Share my faith on the track, I’m just exorcising demons”

“While it may seem like mere pushback for lyrics considered inappropriate to some Christians, Baraka feels the decision on LifeWay’s part to pull the record points to a greater schism between cultures within the evangelical sphere. As the Washington Post words it, Baraka “believes his own culture, one shaped by a love for hip-hop and a pride in his ethnic heritage, is at odds with a Christianity dominated by white, political conservatives.”

CHRISTIANITY TODAY DENIES THAT BARAKA IS “ADVOCATING PROGRESSIVISM IN THE CHURCH”  IN ITS 2017 RESPONSE .

BUT NOW WITH &CAMPAIGN THAT DENIAL IS PROVEN TOTALLY WRONG.

“Not that Baraka is advocating progressivism in the church per se, but rather calls for a third way, outside of the binary systems the evangelical church has placed itself in. His viewpoint is best expressed in an article he wrote last year about the election. In it, he voices his frustration over having to choose between the democratic party whose supporters are marching toward a “secular utopia” and the republican party that is backing a candidate who wants to “resurrect bigoted ideologies.” Baraka argues this leaves the black Christian without a representative.

Terminus Collective – Perimeter Church

[PDF]

ACCORDING TO PERIMETER CHURCH PDF ABOVE TERMINUS COLLECTIVE IS PART OF THE RANDY POPE/ PERIMETER CHURCH “ALL- iN KINGDOM IMPACT ” CAPITAL CAMPAIGN AND MINISTRY VISION .
“Through ALL IN, Terminus Collective Is Influencing Leaders in
Secular Channels of Cultural Influence”
“Who are we?
“Our vision:”
“In partnership with local churches inside and outside of I-285, Terminus Collective desires to see men and women who work in different channels of cultural influence (e.g., business, education, the arts, government, etc.) equipped with a Christ-centered world and life view for the glory of God, the good of their neighbors, and the common good of Atlanta. Our mission Our mission is to organize and equip leaders for the flourishing of Atlanta through the integration of faith, industry, and community. Areas of focus: work (vocations in and around Atlanta) and cities (Atlanta-area communities, inside and outside of I-285).”
THE TERMINUS VISION AND THE FAITH AND WORK SOCIALIST ECONOMICS
OF TIM KELLER
” What is the problem we are trying to solve, and what is a solution?
“In nothing has the Church so lost her hold on reality as in her failure to understand and respect the secular vocation. She has allowed work and religion to become separate departments, and is astonished to find that, as a result, the secular work of the world is turned to purely selfish and destructive ends, and that the greater part of the world’s intelligent workers have become irreligious, or at least, uninterested in religion.” – Dorothy Sayers, mid 1900s”

“It is often a challenging endeavor to flesh out the implications of the gospel in and through one’s vocation. It is even more challenging to connect one’s faith with one’s vocation, in hopes of impacting one’s neighborhood and city.”

“Currently, there is limited training for people trying to figure out how the biblical plot-line of creation-fall-redemption restoration connects to their work, especially “mundane” work. This is beginning to change, not just in Atlanta, but in a
number of other cities through creative endeavors such as the Center for Faith and Work (Redeemer Presbyterian Church in NYC), Surge School (Phoenix, AZ), and the Denver Institute for Faith and Work (Denver, CO). “
“• Non-formal education (the school). The “school” will have semester-long tracks that provide the participant with a Christ-centered world and life view. The curriculum will be designed to equip people who serve in private, public, and social sectors. The “school” will expose the participant to theologies of vocation and place, combined with
components necessary for a community to flourish (e.g., healthy economy, healthy public sector, the public square). “Classes” will take place monthly (sometimes 2x/week+) and will be interactive, consist of a curriculum, and leverage a repository of Atlanta-area leaders identified through our partnerships.
• Community research and consultation. Not only do we hope to provide excellent data on Atlanta-area communities, but we also want to eventually be a go-to service for helping to convene community stakeholders — again, through local churches — to help bless their communities. “
POPES VISION WITH TERMINUS RECRUITED CAMPUS PCA MINISTRY “CAMPUS OUTREACH ” VOLUNTEERS FOR TRAINING
“What are some initial results from our beginnings (fall 2015 – summer 2016)
• Through Terminus Collective’s monthly forum (City Syllabus), an estimated 200+ attendees were exposed to a redemptive grid through which to view their work and city.
• By partnering with Campus Outreach and providing training for CO’s summer leadership project in June and July, Terminus exposed more than 60 Campus Outreach college students to a conversation centered on the gospel, work, and the intersection of faith and work in different industries, in and around Atlanta.
• Terminus Collective worked with a strategic planning team made up of people from at least 10 different churches, inside and outside I-285. “
ANY CONSERVATIVE PCA MEMBER SHOULD BE CONCERNED IF THEIR COLLEGE AGE CHILDREN WORKED IN CAMPUS OUTREACH AND THESE SOCIAL JUSTICE PROJECTS

Why Terminus Collective?
“Atlanta, like many metropolitans, has the potential of great flourishing by way of rapid development, a burgeoning entertainment industry and a venerated history of social impacts. However, Atlanta also has a profound tangle of racial, social, and economic challenges. Atlanta ranks near the top in income inequality, sex trafficking, while compounding that with racial tensions, housing and community decay, and other forms of social dislocation. We at Terminus believe that the passive manner in which we view vocation is represented in the misfortune of the city. Terminus Collective is structured to inhibit such a plague by introducing an emerging philosophy to work while constructing vocational opportunities.
WHO is Terminus Collective?
Terminus Collective is a collective of Creatives and Makers from multiple industries such as; Film, Music, Fine Arts, Artisans, Dance and more. This collective desires to use their time, talent and treasure for the benefit of others. Our Executive Director, Amisho Baraka, has worked in the film and music industry for over a decade. We desire to forge an ecosystem where creatives work together, learn together and create together.”

CHRISTIANITY TODAY AND POLYMATH TIES TO BARAKA ORGANIZATION

ANOTHER PARTNER/ SPONSOR OF SHO’S PERIMETER CHURCH ORGANIZATION IS “POLYMATH ”

Partners

POLYMATH IS A “BRANDING ORGANIZATION ” WHICH ALSO REPRESENTS THE SOUTHERN BAPTIST ERLC UNDER PROGRESSIVE RUSSELL MOORE, Q IDEAS , AEI  AMONG OTHER ORGANIZATIONS.

Social Justice is the common theme of most of these organization TODAY .

POLYMATH BRANDING IS LED BY TIM DALRYMPLE -NEW CEO OF CHRISTIANITY TODAY

https://polymath.io/team/tim-dalrymple/

“Tim is a national champion gymnast with degrees from Stanford, Princeton Theological Seminary, and Harvard. A true polymath, he has taught at elite universities, helped to launch the world’s largest religion website, and published in books, journals, magazines, and newspapers. He launched Polymath in 2013 to gather talented creatives around projects that matter.

“Tim currently enjoys less dangerous sports than gymnastics while spending time with his amazing wife and Star Wars-loving daughters”

DALRYMPLE IS ALSO NOW  A MEMBER OF PERIMETER CHURCH

https://www.christianitytoday.com/news/2019/february/christianity-today-appoints-timothy-dalrymple-as-new-presid.html

“The president-elect was raised in California, where his father served in several pastoral roles. He began to preach and teach at a young age. He was also a national champion gymnast and saw God’s faithfulness in victory and defeat alike. He took his passions for ministry, learning, and athletic achievement with him to Stanford University.”

“When his gymnastics career ended in a broken neck, he plunged into campus ministry and overseas missions trips. He became president of Stanford’s Campus Crusade (Cru) chapter.”

“It was also at Stanford where he met his wife, Joyce. Both helped to lead a Christian unity movement on campus that brought together students from all the university’s Christian fellowships to worship God with one another.”

“After graduating from Stanford with a double major in philosophy and religious studies, Tim earned an MDiv at Princeton Theological Seminary and a PhD in modern western religious thought at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Along the way he also served in youth ministry, prison chaplaincy, and graduate and faculty ministry with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.”

“Tim’s desire to thoughtfully engage the public square and to find creative ways of sharing the gospel in the new media marketplace found expression after Harvard in his work with the multi-religious website Patheos (2008–2014). First he was managing editor of Patheos’s evangelical channel, then director of content and vice-president of business development.”

“In 2013 Dalrymple founded Polymath, a creative agency that helps clients with branding, design, web, video, marketing and communications, and content development. Its clients have included the Museum of the Bible, International Justice Mission, the American Enterprise Institute, and Indiana Wesleyan University.”

“Today, after 18 years of marriage, Tim and Joyce have three daughters; the family is currently active at PERIMETER CHURCH  in Johns Creek, Georgia.”

DEFEATING TRUMP BY SELLING “THIRD WAY “POLITICAL ENGAGEMENT TO EVANGELICALS

The vision of & Campaign is to shake up the 2020 election.

The Terminus project of & Campaign co-founder Sho Baraka seems disturbingly similar to the Atlanta based  anarchist group “Capitol Terminus Collective ” but with a faith based focus twist .

THE TERMINUS  NAME HAS HISTORY IN ATLANTA ANARCHIST POLITICS

“It was the idea of a few Atlanta attendees of the Million Worker March in 2004 to create an anarchist collective in Atlanta, and early in 2005, a few locals began holding study groups on anarchism and political theory. Apart from the study groups, the collective began organizing to promote the idea of a Southeast anarchist-communist federation, much like that of NEFAC, or FAI of Iberia.”  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_Terminus_Collective

It is unclear where Perimeter church leaders and Randy Pope got the name for their in house Terminus Collective but it is VERY CLEAR where it has landed them.

WHERE DOES IT ALL LEAVE THE CHURCHES WHO SUBSCRIBE TO THE KELLER /POPE/ WARREN/ DRUCKER /COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT VISION?

FOR NOW THE MOST OBVIOUS PLACE IS IN THE POCKET OF THE OBAMA FOUNDATION FAITH OPERATIVE AND THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

PCA people who support Tim Keller and Randy Pope and others in their denomination plus the multitudes of Baptist who follow Rick Warrens “Purpose Driven ” models -have no idea where it all came from. These leaders are taking the church into a massive vortex of social justice and socialist economics while telling them it is the vision of the future for the ministry of the Gospel . If your church is driving “Community Development “and economic justice – then you are being deceived  INTO FUNDING MUCH OF IT WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING IT .

EVEN LESS  OBVIOUS HAS BEEN  SLIGHT OF HAND BY WHICH THE GOSPEL COALITION AND ITS ILK HAVE TURNED THE NEXT GENERATION BELIEVERS INTO SOLID SOCIAL JUSTICE DEMOCRATIC VOTERS IN THE PROCESS.

IT IS VERY DISTURBING TO SEE THE END GAME ….IF YOU WERE PAYING ATTENTION .

QUESTION IS ARE YOU …PAYING ATTENTION ?
